Social Media and local elections in India

An interesting article about how candidates in local polls are using social networking sites like Facebook, twitter and YouTube to garner votes in India. This might come across as something new and innovative, but across the US, candidates from both parties use social media extensively for both local and national elections. But the 2014 Lok Sabha election, that’s expected to be a fight between Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi will definitely have a huge social media and online angle to it. India has over 100 million internet users and close to 50 million Facebook users, this number is of course all set to rise by 2014. So with such a huge portion of the electorate online, it would be foolish not to have an online and social strategy.
