As financial transactions move increasingly online, protecting users from scams and phishing attacks has never been more critical. Emirates NBD, one of the leading banks in the region, took an innovative approach to raise awareness — by making education fun and interactive.
In collaboration with AliveNow, the bank launched a unique Instagram AR filter quiz that tested users’ knowledge about online banking security, fraud detection, and phishing prevention.
Originally built for Meta’s Spark AR platform, the experience was optimized for Instagram, but since the platform’s deprecation, this kid of experience is also deployable on Snapchat, TikTok, and WebAR — making it scalable across multiple ecosystems for future deployment.
Why This Campaign Stands Out
What makes Emirates NBD’s AR campaign particularly effective is how it reframes an important yet often overlooked topic—digital security education—into a format users genuinely enjoy.
By blending education with play, the campaign achieved three key objectives:
- Engagement: Users actively participated rather than passively consuming information.
- Retention: The gamified format made fraud prevention tips memorable.
- Shareability: The filter’s outcomes encouraged users to share results, increasing reach organically.
This approach illustrates how financial institutions and other service-oriented brands can leverage AR not just for entertainment, but as a meaningful communication tool.
The Emirates NBD Fraud Awareness AR Quiz demonstrates the power of merging technology, education, and creativity. What could have been a straightforward PSA became a shareable, viral learning moment for thousands of users.
